SUMMARY: The mechanic is responsible for maintaining and repairing tools and equipment used on the grounds.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Receives work orders for repair of malfunctioning or broken equipment and tools, checks for problems and makes repairs with in specified time frames. Performs maintenance on motorized vehicles, mowers and weed eaters (checks safety features, oils and greases gears and casings). Disassembles malfunctioning equipment, examines parts and makes appropriate repairs. Cleans dirty equipment or their parts. Maintains parts and supplies such as oil, gas, and filters ordering new inventory as needed.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES: Will work with the Grounds crew as needed and there are no priority mechanical issues. Assist with planting of annual flower beds, cultivation of beds, mulching, leaf disposal, mowing, edging, pruning, and trash/debris removal.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: Knowledge of repair and maintenance of grounds equipment and tools including preventive maintenance procedures. Ability to read and interpret schematics and repair manuals; follow instruction; knowledge of basic math. Ability to determine problems and solutions and perform necessary repairs.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to lift or move 50 to 100 pounds , tolerate seasonal weather conditions from extreme cold to intense heat. Will work outside in all weather conditions and may be exposed to moving machinery parts, fumes, airborne particles and vibrations.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: High School diploma or GED. Must have prior mechanic experience – at least 5 years in mechanic shop including grounds machinery experience.
