Capitol Grounds
Bauxite Boulder

Located west of the Capitol, this boulder symbolizes the many contributions Arkansans made to World War II. At one time, Arkansas was the source of 97% of the nation's bauxite, which is used in the production of aluminum. This boulder was placed on the grounds in 1943 during Governor Homer Atkins' administration.
