Secretary Daniels presides over the meeting of Arkansas's 2008 Electoral College in the State Capitol's Old Supreme Court Room.
LITTLE ROCK, AR—The Arkansas Electoral College formally cast the state’s six electoral votes for Senator John McCain and Governor Sarah Palin in a meeting today in the Old Supreme Court Room of the State Capitol.
Arkansas Educational Television Network (AETN) and Secretary of State Charlie Daniels partnered to stream the 2008 Electoral College live to the web. The recorded video of the proceedings will be available by tomorrow, December 16, from the Secretary of State’s website at
www.sos.ar.gov.
Secretary Daniels presided over the convening of the Electoral College, while Chief Justice Jim Hannah of the Arkansas Supreme Court administered the oath of office to the electors.
The number of electors equals the number of members in a state’s Congressional delegation, which is six in Arkansas. The state’s voters cast 59 percent of their votes for the McCain-Palin ticket in the November 4 election; thus, the state’s electors were selected by the Republican Party of Arkansas.
The Arkansas electors are Jim Burnett of Clinton, Reta Hamilton of Bella Vista, Rose Bryant Jones of North Little Rock, Phyllis Kincannon of Maumelle, Steve Lux of Pine Bluff, and Kermit Parks of El Dorado.
