(LITTLE ROCK, ARK.) - Arkansas Secretary of State Charlie Daniels today announced a series of free summer workshops on “Using the State Capitol to Teach” to be offered to teachers for in-service credit from June 6th through August 6th, 2007 statewide.

The workshops, conducted at educational cooperatives around the state, will provide an overview of the free educational materials and resources available from the Secretary of State’s office, including voter education materials for all grade levels, on-site and classroom programs, internet resources for Arkansas history, civics materials, and a teacher information CD with downloadable PDF files of Secretary of State education publications.

The agenda includes sessions on “How to Make the Most of Your Capitol Field Trip,” “Beyond State Symbol Activity Books: An Overview of Programs and Specialized Tours,” and “www.sos.arkansas.gov - Your Best Online Resource for Civics and Government.”

The workshops are part of Secretary Daniels’s ongoing effort to educate and inform young Arkansans about their great state and the responsibilities of citizenship.

“Civics education should be ranked up there next to the three R’s in terms of importance,” said Secretary Daniels. “The aim of these workshops is to help grow good citizens by giving teachers more innovative options for engaging students in the political process early on.”
