Sec. Daniels Reminds AR Registered Voters of Early Voting Period

Starting Monday, May 5, registered voters may cast early ballots
Secretary of State Charlie Daniels today reminded the state’s registered voters of the early voting period starting Monday, May 5 for the state’s May 20 Preferential Primary and Nonpartisan Judicial General Election.
Early voting will be available from Monday, May 5 - Monday, May 19 statewide from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm Monday through Friday, 10:00 am to 4:00 pm on Saturday, and ending at 5:00 pm on the Monday before the election. Each county will provide at least one early voting location (usually the county courthouse), and some will offer additional satellite locations.
“Early voting is a great option for registered voters who cannot make it to the polls on May 20 or just want to avoid long lines on Election Day,” Daniels said.

REGISTRATION
New voters must have submitted an Arkansas Voter Registration Application by the April 21, 2008 deadline to participate in this election. Voter registration information can be verified online at www.votenaturally.org. If any information is out of date or incorrect, voters need to notify their county clerk’s office.
In 2007, the state legislature passed a law allowing for county-to-county transfer of voter registrations up to four days before the election. The deadline for transferring one’s voter registration for this election is May 16, 2008.
BALLOT CHOICE
Voters wishing to participate in the state’s Preferential Primary and Nonpartisan Judicial General Election will have a choice of three ballots: Democratic, Republican, or nonpartisan judicial. Nonpartisan judicial races will also be listed on the partisan ballots. Voters may vote in any party’s primary election without regard to how, or if, they voted in the February 5 Presidential Preferential Primary.
ABSENTEE VOTING
Voters who will be unavoidably absent from the polls on Election Day may request absentee ballots from their county clerks. It is important voters indicate their ballot preference in their request: Democratic, Republican, or nonpartisan judicial. The clerk must receive the mailed absentee ballot request application by May 13, 2008. Voters must mail back their ballot by Election Day.
AT THE POLLS VOTING
The Preferential Primary and Nonpartisan Judicial General Election will take place on Tuesday, May 20, 2008. Polls are open statewide from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
