TABULATION NEARS COMPLETION IN PRESIDENTIAL PRIMARY
Friday, Feb 8, 2008
(LITTLE ROCK, ARK.)—As of close of business Friday, only Craighead County is still tabulating election results. The rest of the counties are reporting preliminary and unofficial results into the Arkansas Secretary of State’s election night reporting website, www.arelections.org.
According to these preliminary and incomplete results, turnout was around 33 percent with 526,244 registered voters participating in this election. As the remaining county reports its results, the preliminary turnout percentage may increase slightly.
The counties are required to submit certified election results to the Secretary of State’s office no later than ten days following an election. At that time, the final results and turnout will be determined.
Early vote and absentee totals are still being reported to the state. With 64 counties now reporting, the preliminary number of early votes cast in this election is 66,000 and absentee ballot requests total around 9,800.
In 2004, 335,016 voters or 22 percent of all registered voters turned out in the statewide Preferential Primary Election. Around 50,000 of them voted early and 9,000 voted absentee. In the 2000 Preferential Primary Election, 291, 473 or 19 percent of all registered voters turned out with around 28,000 of them voting early and 8,000 voting absentee.
