Storms delay election results in three counties
(LITTLE ROCK, ARK.)—As of close of business Thursday, three counties out of Arkansas’s 75 counties are still in the process of getting their election results tabulated because of Tuesday’s storms. They are Craighead, Stone, and Van Buren. The rest of the counties are reporting preliminary and unofficial results into the Arkansas Secretary of State’s election night reporting website, www.arelections.org.
According to these preliminary results, voter participation for this presidential primary was as high as 46% in Clark and Madison counties and as low as 21% in Crittenden County with an overall average at around 33%. As the remaining counties are able to report their results, the overall preliminary turnout percentage will likely increase by one or two percent.
The counties are required to submit certified election results to the Secretary of State’s office no later than ten days following an election. At that time, the final results and turnout will be determined.
Early vote and absentee totals are still being reported to the state. With 64 counties now reporting, the preliminary number of early votes cast in this election is 65,000 and absentee ballot requests total around 9,700.
In 2004, 335,016 voters or 22% of all registered voters turned out in the statewide Preferential Primary Election. Around 50,000 of them voted early and 9,000 voted absentee. In the 2000 Preferential Primary Election, 291, 473 or 19% of all registered voters turned out with around 28,000 of them voting early and 8,000 voting absentee.
