FOUR COUNTIES YET TO TABULATE RESULTS FOR PRESIDENTIAL PRIMARY

Wednesday, Feb 6, 2008

As of close of business Wednesday, four counties out of Arkansas’s 75 counties have not tabulated their election results because of Tuesday’s storms. They are Craighead, Sharp, Stone, and Van Buren. 67 counties have reported preliminary and unofficial results into the Arkansas Secretary of State’s election night reporting website, www.arelections.org.

Certified results may be reported to the Secretary of State’s office as early as 48 hours after an election, but no later than 10 days following an election.

Early vote and absentee totals are still being reported to the state. With 62 counties now reporting, the preliminary number of early votes cast in this election is 65,000. Of those, approximately 41,000 are Democratic, 22,000 are Republican, and 70 are Green. Counties are also reporting around 9,600 absentee ballot requests.

In 2004, 335,016 voters or 22% of all registered voters turned out in the statewide Preferential Primary Election. Around 50,000 of them voted early and 9,000 voted absentee. In the 2000 Preferential Primary Election, 291, 473 or 19% of all registered voters turned out with around 28,000 of them voting early and 8,000 voting absentee.
