Features an interactive information center, business center with wireless access, renovated theater, redesigned post office, and an expanded gift shop
Secretary of State Charlie Daniels today debuted the completely renovated first-floor Capitol Visitor Center (CVC) at a grand opening event.
“Today marks the realization of a vision I’ve had for our State Capitol that included the promenade and front steps repaired to their original state, the stonework on the dome restored to gleaming white, and a true visitor center offering many multi-faceted services to the nearly one hundred thousand visitors the Capitol receives every year,” said Secretary Daniels.
The CVC now includes a state-of-the-art computer touch screen that serves as an interactive information center. The intuitive display is a virtual guide to all the services, officials, and events to be found in the State Capitol. The visitor services area also includes a renovated theater for visitors to watch educational videos about the history of Arkansas and the Capitol building.
A new business center features free high-speed wireless access and television news headlines. Additional wireless hotspots are now located in the Capitol Café, second floor rotunda, snack stand, and the Capitol Hill building.
The Capitol Gift Shop was expanded to include almost twice the previous amount of retail space to offer a greater selection of Arkansas souvenirs to the Capitol’s visitors.
Additionally, the United States Post Office, Capitol Police bureau, and Capitol tour desk were all renovated as part of this project to facilitate ease of use and restore the continuity of the historical building’s design elements.
The State Capitol building is open to the public from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on weekdays and from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on weekends and holidays.
