CAPITOL DISPLAY HIGHLIGHTS CREATION OF MONUMENT HONORING LITTLE ROCK NINE

(LITTLE ROCK, ARK.) -Secretary of State Charlie Daniels today presented an installation in the State Capitol first-floor rotunda highlighting the creation of Testament, a monument honoring the Little Rock Nine, which is located on the north end of the Capitol grounds near Third Street.

The installation includes interpretive panels on the events of the Central High School desegregation crisis of 1957, the creation of the sculptural monument by Little Rock artist John Deering, and the dedication of the monument on August 30, 2005. A maquette, or scale model, of the Testament monument is also featured.

Photographs in the display include reproductions of the iconic images by Arkansas Democrat photographer Will Counts and Secretary of State staff photographers Jerry Butler and C. Matt Manning.

Testament: Remembering 1957Looking Forward, will remain on display in the first-floor rotunda through this Sunday, September 30th. The public is invited to view the display and the Testament monument from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on weekdays and from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on weekends.
