(LITTLE ROCK, ARK.) --Students from all over the state will descend on the State Capitol next week to mark National Young Voters Week, hosted by Arkansas Secretary of State Charlie Daniels.
Beginning Tuesday, March 6th, around 150 students from 30 schools will participate in a hands-on look at the voting process. Daily sessions at the Arkansas Association of Counties building will include a mock election and dialogue with elected officials. Other programs will provide a look at the federal Voting Rights Act, offer eligible students the opportunity to register to vote, and encourage participation in a high school poll worker program. Participants will end their workshop with a guided tour of the State Capitol.
Secretary Daniels is conducting the program in conjunction with the National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS), which has designated March as National Young Voters Month in an effort to involve more young Americans in the voting process.
“It is important to impart the preciousness and power of one’s vote to our youth,” said Secretary Daniels. “National Young Voters Week is just one of our voter education programs that seeks to generate an interest in the democratic process that I hope will continue to grow as the students reach voting age and beyond.”
