(LITTLE ROCK, ARK.)—Arkansas Secretary of State Charlie Daniels today announced plans to remodel the first floor rotunda area of the state Capitol into a state-of-the-art visitor services center.
The center will include an area in the northwest corner of the first floor for tourists to gather information on Arkansas and the state Capitol through the use of an interactive computer touchscreen and educational videos.
Visitors conducting business in the Capitol will be able to catch up on emails using a new wi-fi connection. The northeast corner will include space for working on laptops and watching the news.
Additionally, the U.S. Post Office, Capitol Police bureau, Capitol Gift Shop, and Tour Desk will be renovated to facilitate ease of use and to restore the continuity of the historical building’s design elements.
“The Capitol building is near and dear to my heart, and this project has been a dream of mine for years,” said Secretary Daniels. “This center will make a stunning first impression on visitors to our state Capitol as well as provide many valuable services for businesspeople and tourists alike.”
Construction is set to begin Sunday, April 29th and will continue during off-business hours until the renovations are complete around August 2007.
