Early voting for General Election begins Monday

(October 19, 2012) LITTLE ROCK – Early voting for the General Election begins Monday, Oct. 22, Secretary of State Mark Martin reminded voters today.

“The number of early voters in Arkansas has increased every year,” Martin said. “By voting early during the next two weeks, Arkansans can avoid long lines on Election Day.”

County clerks and county boards of election commissioners across the state have been preparing for Monday’s opening of early voting. Most counties host early voting in the local courthouse.

Martin said voters have been diligent about checking their registration status this year. “Our office and county clerks’ offices have been inundated with telephone calls to verify registration,” he said. “Our Voter View website has had over 1 million hits in the past couple of months as voters check their status. If anyone still has questions about whether they are registered to vote, they can check our website,, or contact their local county clerk.”

Voters should be prepared to show identification and verify their address to ensure they are given the correct ballot.

Early voting begins Monday, Oct. 22, and ends Monday, Nov. 5. Voters can contact their local county clerk to inquire about early voting locations. On Election Day, Nov. 6, polls are open from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
