Computer Support Specialist

Summary:

The Computer Support Specialist is responsible for maintaining the hardware and infrastructure that support the Secretary of State’s (SOS) computer network.

Essential Duties:
  • Maintain and update the firmware associated with PCs, servers and network hardware
  • Configures PCs for use by staff
  • Ensure that PCs and servers can operate required peripherals
  • Configure and maintain public wireless and SOS wireless in the Capitol Building
  • Configure and maintain smartphones for use with the SOS network resources
  • Transfer images of computers from one computer to other like functioning computers
  • Performs hardware support of Voter Registration system in the counties
Must have:
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work with basic mathematical concepts
  • Understand the inner workings of personal computers (PC), servers and network hardware
  • Proficient in the use and maintenance of Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7
  • Proficient in the configuration of peripherals on Windows operating systems
  • Ability to analyze practical problems based on issues reported by staff and identify the root cause of the issue
  • Ability to respond to queries on issues from staff, vendors or county officials
  • Technical writing of checklists
Education: 

High School Diploma or GED. Bachelor’s Degree in Management Information Systems, Computer Science or related field of study preferred.

Additional:
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Able to tolerate temperatures which normally range from 65⁰ to 75⁰ F and loud noise.

IT Project Manager

Summary: 

The project manager is responsible for development of project plans, managing the scope, timeline, communications, risk involved, task assignment for project team, and reports project progress to all stakeholders and Department Director.

Essential Duties (for IT projects and software development projects):
  • Develop plans to execute the project
  • Coordinates work assignments of team members
  • Manages stakeholders ‘expectations and ensures effective communication throughout the team and extending to the stakeholders.
  • Determines any possible risks involved and monitors the tasks of team members related to timeline and budget.
  • Resolves conflicts.
  • Manages delivery and deployment of projects
Must Have:
  • Excellent verbal and writing skills
  • Ability to respond to queries and issues from staff, vendors and stakeholders
  • Ability to relay highly technical information to staff outside IT
  • Ability to:  work with basic mathematical concepts; analyze practical problems reported by staff and relate problems to the project team; ability to analyze issues and identify root cause of the issue.
  • Understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and follow SDLC for Software Development projects.
  • Understanding and ability to employ Dynamic Systems Development Methods, Scrum and other agile Development techniques.
Education:

Bachelor’s Degree in Project Management, Management Information Systems, Computer Science or related areas of study, and/or three to five years experience with project management of computer systems - or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

Additional:
  • Project Management Professional Certification desired but not required.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
